NEWS of dry weather in the north is providing some hope for Victorian hay growers burdened by stocks of low-quality hay.
Dry and warm weather has depleted pasture production along the coastal areas of northern NSW and including those north of Brisbane.
These normally productive areas have received less than 20mm of rain over the past seven weeks and dairy farmers have been forced to buy in hay.
Over the last three weeks, drop deck B-double loads of cereal hay from northern Victoria have been routinely travelling to dairy farms on the north central coast and New England area of NSW.
