VICTORIA’S largest irrigation district is teetering on the brink of collapse, as politicians bicker, order yet more reviews and fail to make tough decisions.

The once mighty Goulburn Murray Irrigation District once delivered two million megalitres to 500,000ha in the 1990s.

Today, it is a shadow of its former self, delivering 1.25 million megalitres to 300,000ha — that’s less than 4.2 megalitres a hectare.
