Lion to sell struggling dairy business

Lion’s struggling dairy business, which includes top brands like Pura milk, Dairy Farmers, Farmers Union, Dare Iced Coffee and King Island cheese, will be sold, as the Japanese-owned beverages company focuses on more high-growth areas such as craft beer.

Lion, controlled by Japanese conglomerate Kirin, has decided to shed its dairy arm after a review of the business and mounting impairments and write downs which have totalled billions of dollars in recent years.

Lion favours selling the dairy business as a whole rather than broken up and sold in parts.
