OTHER ways to restore the Murray-Darling Basin to health should be considered before $1.5 billion is spent on efficiency projects to recover an extra 450 gigalitres for the environment, an inquiry has been told.
Agricultural consultant Rob Rendell was the co-author of a report commissioned by a Goulburn Murray Irrigation District (GMID) lobby group, which found all water available for agriculture in Victoria would be taken up by the horticulture industry during the next drought.
