Victoria delivers 73% of environmental water to Commonwealth

VICTORIA is delivering 73 per cent of the 788,000 megalitres allocated against Commonwealth Southern Basin water entitlements this season, prompting the state’s irrigators to demand the Commonwealth back off taking any more.

“Enough is enough,” Victorian Farmers Federation water council chairman Richard Anderson said.

“It is time the MDBA and the Commonwealth fixed the current plan before they attempt to recover a single drop of additional water.”

Mr Anderson said in dry seasons Victoria’s secure reserves policy meant the state did all the heavy lifting, by delivering far higher allocations than other states against the Commonwealth’s environmental entitlements.
